Users are calling in hot and heavy... things are slowing down. Why?
It's mid morning, everybody is already logged in but they complain loudly about response times. Quickly checking the server shows nothing wrong, CPU is humming at 20%, memory usage is only 50%. What the heck is going on?
You may have a Broadcast Storm on the network!
So how do you find out about that? You need a Network Protocol analyzer. These tools capture and decode the traffic between two or more systems or devices. Decoding allows you to view the conversation in English, as opposed to "binary" language. Packet Capture and Packet Decode help you to isolate problems. Viewing specific packet details shows exactly what is happening. Protocol analyzers provide you information about the traffic flow on your network.
EtherBoy® gives you affordable real-time multi protocol network monitoring on your Intel-based workstation It provides insights and answers to a large number of network management and usage questions.
Because EtherBoy is totally passive, no additional load is placed on your network resources. It is an ideal addition to your desktop based management station, or as a laptop based portable network probe.
PacketBoy™ is a packet analyzer/decoder package capable of decoding many of the commonly used LAN protocols. Protocols which can be decoded include TCP/IP, IPX (Novell Netware®), Appletalk®, Banyan® and DECNET® protocol suites. Multiple captures can be loaded and saved to disk.
To aid the security concious administrator, PacketBoy provides a configurable capture trigger to automatically start packet capture when unusual or undesirable network activity occurs. It is an ideal addition to your desktop based management station, or as a laptop based portable network probe.
PACKETBOY ALLOWS YOU TO:
- Capture and analyze all network packets.
- PacketBoy evaluation only captures 50 packets. That limitation does not exist in the full version.
- Set customizable capture triggers.
- Use customizable packet capture filters.
- Load and save packet traces.
- Decode the TCP/IP protocol suite including many application protocols such as NFS, X11, RPC, HTTP.
- Decode Novell Netware (IPX) including: NCP, SPX, SAP and RIP.
- Decode the Appletalk protocol family including: ATP, AEP, ZIP and RTMP.
NetBoy is a visual and real-time software-only based network monitoring tool. It eliminates the high cost and complexity associated with hardware based solutions, many of which require a separate PC.
The software monitors traffic by 'sniffing the wire' and therefore does not need to run on a server. It can be loaded on any Windows 95/98/NT4/2000 computer or laptop connected to a network.

WebBoy is a complete Internet/Intranet monitoring package. It provides statistics on standard Web traffic including URLs accessed, cache hit ratios, Internet protocols and user defined protocols.

Q: What exactly is the NetBoy Suite?
A: The NetBoy Suite is a collection of the three programs:
EtherBoy - The real time visual multi protocol LAN monitor
WebBoy - The real time visual Web traffic LAN Monitor
PacketBoy - The packet capture, analyzer and decoder
Q: Are the results displayed easily interpreted?
A: Interpretation of results is done graphically or through reports.
Q: How many workstations does a license cover?
A: Licenses are needed for each workstation NetBoy is installed on and may only be installed on a second workstation if customer deletes it from the first workstation.
Q: What hardware is required and/or any additional software?
A: A Pentium Class PC + Win 95/95/NT/2000 OS
Q: What is the functionality of the software?
A: Real-time network monitoring, management, and packet analyzer/decoder utility. Provides an insight into network management and usage questions.
Q: What network architectures are supported?
A: Currently NetBoy v2.0 supports the following network architectures: Ethernet 10/100, Token-Ring
Q: What O/S Platforms are supported?
A: Currently NetBoy v2.0 supports the following O/S: Win 95 / 98 / NT / 2000
Q: Will NetBoy work with modems (PPP link)?
A: NetBoy will only work with network cards (NDIS). It does not work with modems (PPP).
Q: Can you buy WebBoy, PacketBoy and EtherBoy separately?
A: No, these modules are bundled in one easily affordable package and cannot be broken out.
Q: Does it work on a switched network?
A: No, it just looks at what is visible on the segment. We are working on a remote agent for other segments. Switches is another type of animal than ordinary 10/100 ethernet segments.
